Free Homeschool Help – The Gift of Time

If you’re feeling overwhelmed about the choices and just want to pick up a stay-at-home mom gift, listen up! Get her something just because. Pick up supper and some chocolate. Tell her you’re in charge for the night, and let her hide in her room. She’ll appreciate that more than anything else you could get shipped from Amazon.

Teacher Planning Day

At the end of the summer or over the Christmas Break, offer to come over and watch the kids for the day. This gives her a day to go curriculum shopping, making a school plan, or scroll Pinterest with intention. Combine this with a Starbucks or Panera gift certificate and you just gave her a perfect teacher planning day.

Time to Relax by Herself

The most precious gift you can give a busy homeschool mom is the gift of time. Offer to take over homeschool duties for a day so she can have a well-deserved break to relax and recharge.

If you want to be a real super-hero supporter, gift her a night or whole weekend away at a hotel by herself. While she may try to make it purposeful, encourage her to leave all school thoughts at home. This is time to just relax, watch her own grown up shows, and sleep in.

Mother’s Helper

Any mom – homeschool or not – always has projects around the house that need to be done. Volunteer to come over and hold the baby, entertain the toddler, or take the big kids to the park. If you can’t do it yourself, you could bribe hire a younger teen to fill in for you. Moms aren’t picky! Even if you’re just offering mom some undivided time to focus on math with a big kid, it’s appreciated. Bonus: bring her a casserole for dinner!

Sometimes a day just to go get a haircut without little people is a much-needed mini-vacation for busy moms of littles.

Teaching Assistant

Offer to help with a subject or special skill. Everyone has something to offer even if it’s just teaching baking when Mom can’t or helping a teen learn woodwork. If you have a favorite subject, what a gift to show the kids why they should love math or history; pour into them with some of your favorite topics. Even if it’s nothing more than taking a kid under wing when you test the water in your pool, it’s a life lesson!

Don’t hesitate to grab a kid for a project or volunteer to teach a skill! Just make sure it isn’t done in a way that sounds like “You obviously need help” 🙂 .

Practical Homeschool Teacher Gifts

Inside many homeschool moms is a little girl who wanted to be a teacher. The kind that gets excited about filling a calendar, buying office supplies, and getting organized. Although these glamorous gifts, sometimes these “functional” gifts can be super fun for a nerd mom, and they make us feel like “real” teachers.

Homeschool Organizing

Many homeschool moms juggle multiple kids’ schedules, organize lesson plans, and plan a year of extracurricular activities. However, this can also be a very personal preference. Don’t hesitate to just give a gift certificate and add “to help you plan the next school year”.

For providing a very open-ended planning help, think generic that she can fill out. Personally, this homeschool mom prefers a bullet journal like the traditional Leuchtturm or more recently, this Roterunner combination bullet and traditional planner. With calendar pages and blank pages, there’s accountability to make sure I’m actually using it with space for travel planning!

Bookstore or Curriculum Gift Cards

Help busy mom stock up on books, workbooks, or digital resources by gifting a gift card to Amazon, Rainbow Resource, or Christianbook.com. This allows her to choose exactly what her homeschool needs whether it is curriculum, art supplies, fun books, or other supplies. This gift gives them the flexibility to choose items that best suit their educational needs.

Warning! Although you may be tempted to give her a specific book or product that caught your eye, do this homeschool family a favor and let her pick it out. She probably has a plan for what homeschool curriculum or book she would actually use. Hint: giving her something specific probably just gave her guilt over something she now has to use.

High-Quality Office Supplies

Colorful felt-tip pens, a sturdy laminator, or a paper cutter can make daily homeschooling tasks more enjoyable. And you can never have too many sticky tabs for marking books and Post-Its for never-ending notes. All nerds teacher moms love fun supplies especially if they make them feel more “official” as a teacher.

Feeling super generous? Buy a color printer or new ergonomic desk chair. We really aren’t picky. I’ll take a bouquet of new Sharpies any day.

Fun Board Games for the Family

Gameschool! Educational games and toys are both fun and educational, making them an excellent gift for homeschooling families. Board games, puzzles, and building sets offer hands-on learning opportunities that can enhance the homeschooling experience. Don’t worry about chasing games with a purpose. Any game can be made “educational” given the right strategy. Not to mention, family bonding is a major reason we all homeschool anyway.

Relaxation and Self-Care Gifts

Homeschooling can be stressful no matter if you’re a homeschool pro or new to homeschool, so a relaxation kit can be a welcome gift for any homeschooling parents. You can include items like scented candles, lavender bath salts, a wearable heated blanket, or a homemade relaxing playlist to help them unwind and rejuvenate after a long day of teaching. Don’t forget peanut butter cups. Always the chocolate.

Best gift? Tell them they’re doing great and remind them to take some time for self-care and relaxation. Sometimes we just need some “You go, Girl!” encouragement.

Caffeine! A Drink Sampler

Many homeschool moms rely on their favorite cup of coffee or tea to fuel their mornings. A sampler of gourmet coffee or herbal teas, paired with a cute homeschool-themed mug, is a wonderful gift. For those of us non-coffee drinkers, a nice six-pack of Dr. Peppers or a cold drink from her favorite fast-food restaurant is just as awesome.

Because, let’s face it, caffeine (and chocolate) is the lifeblood of any busy stay-at-home parent. A subscription box that delivers a fresh batch of coffee beans each month will keep her fueled for the long homeschool days ahead.

Cozy Clothes and Extras

Homeschooling often means comfort clothes. If we’re staying home, we stay in lounge clothes! Call it a perk of schooling in the comfort of home, so a plush robe or a soft weighted blanket can make early mornings and late-night lesson planning extra cozy. Grab warm socks, new houseshoes, new yoga pants… We aren’t picky. Just comfy.

Exercise Equipment for Self-Care

Note: this should only be attempted if you know your person. If some people brought be exercise equipment, there would be a fight. You know what I’m talking about.

However, if your person already loves to stay active, go for it. Grab a new National Park water bottle, yoga mat, hiking boots, a fanny pack, hammock, new exercise Bluetooth headphones… Something easy, useful, and encouraging for her to grab for a quick thirty minute break.

Relaxing Craft Time

The last thing a busy mom needs is a stressful new hobby. But anyone can pick up an adult coloring book or logic puzzle book (Murdles are so fun!). Providing supplies for an easy new craft – or coming over for some adult time to work on a craft together – can be a fun and therapeutic activity during her downtime, while also doubling as a creative outlet.

Give me an audiobook (Audible for the win!) and a paint-by-number or macrame kit or cross-stitch… I’m set.

Tech Gifts for Mom

As much as we would love to get rid of tech and screens in homeschool, it just not doable. I’m all about allowing gifts that make mom life easier and make homeschool and travel happen with less stress.

Bluetooth Headphones

My TOP RECOMMENDATION for all homeschool and stay-at-home moms.

For moments when overwhelmed mom needs to focus on planning or grading (or just ignoring children!), Bluetooth headphones can be a lifesaver, especially in a busy household. Busy moms need a little peace and quiet even when in the crazy of schooling at home – even if it’s just in her head.

Although my go to area neckband earphones like these (can’t loose an earpiece), I do also love stealing the husband’s Apple earbuds when he isn’t looking! However, for travel when I need to be more aware of my surroundings, I’m definitely lusting after wanting some bone-conducting headphones. They really are so cool. These would be the perhaps responsible option for moms who need to listen to littles… unlike me who blocks out the noise!

Audible or Kindle Unlimited Subscription

For the mom who loves to read but doesn’t always have time to sit down with a book, an Audible membership or Kindle Unlimited subscription allows her to enjoy books on the go through her phone or Kindle. You could even encourage her to keep her hands free while reading her favorite books with an E-reader stand or hands-free page turner. Check out this ultimate lap desk and stand!

I admit, I was late to the Kindle Unlimited game, but I really do find so many great books. Sometimes I do still have to pay for specific books I need want, but there’s a ton included. Bonus that some have included Audible, so I can flip between both versions from day-time listening to night-time reading. The new full-cast Harry Potter audible is included on Kindle Unlimited – score!

Portable Charger & Tech Gadgets

If she’s often on the go, a Kindle paperwhite for the purse or Kindle fire for kid Netflix videos can be incredibly useful for homeschooling (or entertaining) on the road. Every travel car need extra phone cords to charge that emergency episode of Paw Patrol or Minecraft in the car!

Every exploring mom needs a reliable power bank for charging her own phone especially when hiking or traveling. Sightseeing in the full sun using maps, online tickets, photos… it drains a phone quickly. Don’t get stuck!

Music Playlist or Subscription

Help her fill her home with uplifting music by gifting a Spotify or Apple Music subscription. Don’t forget: if you’re already paying for Amazon Prime, you get Amazon Music options as well. Don’t forget about the headphones or Alexa Echo device for the kitchen so she can listen while doing housework.

Mom tip: Alexa in the kids’ bedrooms means you can “call” them from your phone and don’t have to yell up the stairs. Ha!

You can also create a personalized worship or classical music playlist for her. This can be the “mixed tape” of our youth. How special to receive a “these songs encourage me” or “these were the songs of our college years” list!

Unique, Decor, and Homeschool Books

Inspirational Homeschooling Books

Many homeschool moms are on a learning journey as well. If you don’t love learning, you don’t make a very dedicated homeschooler! Help her show the kids that Mom is learning right along with them. Ask about current podcasts she’s enjoying or books, and help her dive in with related items.

Books that inspire and encourage her homeschooling journey make excellent gifts. Of note, this is one of those gifts best coming from a wise homeschool mom; if certain people had given me a homeschool book, it would not have gone over well! You know what I mean :).

These are some amazing homeschool books from my bookshelf that I recommend!

Devotional or Journaling Books for Moms

Quiet time for stay-at-home and homeschool moms can look different than ideal. Grabbing a few quiet minutes in a crazy day might be all that this season can allow. A faith-based devotional tailored for busy moms, such as Mom Heart Moments by homeschool-queen Sally Clarkson, can provide daily encouragement. A beautiful journaling Bible or how-to-study Bible book like Women of the Word can be just what she needs. You can never have enough beautiful blank books to fill!

Inspirational Wall Art

Inspirational wall art or beautiful piece of scripture art can add a touch of motivation and positivity to the homeschool environment. Consider gifting a piece of wall art with an inspiring quote, a beautiful illustration, or a personalized message that resonates with the homeschooling parent. It can serve as a daily reminder of their important role in their child’s education. If you have a Christian book store like Mardel’s near you, this is great place to find a gift like this!

Fun Themed Homeschool Gifts

How better to say “I fully support your homeschooling” than to declare it on a gift? There are so many fun homeschool-themed gifts like this Christian homeschool mom shirt or “an awesome homeschool teacher” with this cute coffee mug. A sturdy “homeschooling is not for the weak” homeschool tote bag (for allllll the kid junk) can declare her an organized, stylish homeschool mom.

Despite all that cuteness, however, remember that she’s still just mom. Get her something cute that says Mom or Mama… and that’s good enough.

Homeschool Travel Mom Gifts

How better to show that you see the value in road schooling and road trips than to make it easier for homeschool mom to plan and afford to travel. Ya’ll know it is my FAVORITE way to learn! Travel gifts for mom are practical and awesome.

National Parks or State Park Pass

For roadschooling families, an annual America the Beautiful National Parks Pass is an amazing gift that provides access to national parks across the U.S. One pass for the year, and the whole car load will get in free for the whole year. This is especially good for people planning a roadtrip through the western US (my itinerary here!) with the more expensive National Parks like Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon.

For more local adventures, a state park pass or gift certificate to visit local places would be awesome. Don’t forget about those favorite museums and zoos – these memberships are the best gift for year-long adventuring.

Travel Gift Card – Hotels, Rentals, and Gas

Make travel easier by gifting a gas card or an Airbnb gift card to help cover travel expenses. It may seem impersonal, but I promise, it would be awesome to book a hotel a little more freely with some extra cash. You could even find out where they are going and book a hotel for this planning travel mom! Did you know you can send a gift card on Amazon? Check it out here.

Bonus points? Gift them some flight or hotel points that you’ve accrued through your own credit card or travels! I will take some of those, for sure.

Travel Journal and Photo Kit

Every nature, museum, or field trip would be more memorable with a fun journal to document the adventure. Grab a new family scrapbook (check out this one with old-school adhesive pages!) or kid-specific travel journals for everyone in the family. A portable photo printer would be awesome for an upcoming road trip; one picture per destination!

Unsure what to get? Consider gifting a gift certificate to Shutterfly for mom to easily print photos, a family calendar, or a digital scrapbook. Don’t forget the scratch off map to plan new places to visit or commemorate past trips (US map or world map).

Nature-Exploring Essentials

Gifts for a nature-exploring homeschool mom encourage family connection, discovery, and meaningful education in the natural world. Thoughtful ideas include quality field guides, nature journals, or a sturdy day backpack for hikes and field trips. Practical gifts like weather-appropriate gear, a picnic blanket, or a thermos for long days outside make exploring more comfortable. Give her the gift of her own, mom-only binoculars and a bird watching journal, and it can count as self-care as well.

Nature mom’s also take even more pictures than normal mom – if that’s even possible. Be a super homeschool dad (hint! hint!) and upgrade her camera. This more compact mirrorless DSLR fits better in a day pack than her old one. She also accepts new lenses or equipment. 🙂

Subscription and Membership Ideas

Museum or Zoo Membership Gifts

An annual membership to a local museum, zoo, or science center provides year-round educational opportunities for the entire family. Gift mom and the family the ability to get out of the house for almost-free with a new or renewed local membership.

Subscription for Mom Learning

Let distance not be an issue through adult educational online subscriptions like Masterclass, cooking classes, or even an online writing program. If she blogs or is active online, a training class in the latest SEO strategies might help with her side hobby!

Monthly Learning Subscription Box

Yes, this is a list for mom gifts. However, an educational subscription box is a fun and engaging gift that can supplement homeschool curriculum which is really a gift to mom; maybe just label it “for the family” and give her a book to read while kids are occupied. This gift provides a hands-on learning experience that can spark a child’s curiosity and creativity that benefits the whole family.

There are fantastic educational subscription boxes like Letters from Afar or History Unboxed. For STEM-minded homeschool kids, a KiwiCrate or Mark Rober’s CrunchLab box is perfect for a kid project that allows mom some downtime. Language learning can benefit everyone with a family subscription to Rosetta Stone, Super DuoLingo, or LingoPie.

Mom’s Fun Subscription

Remember mom is not just a homeschool mom; give her something that fun shows up on her doorstep. Cooking while homeschooling can be overwhelming; a meal kit service like HelloFresh or Blue Apron can save time and energy (and inspire kids to help mom). For full luxury, brighten her day with fresh blooms delivered to her doorstep regularly like with Bouqs. What about a fun book every month or quarterly? OwlCrate and the BookishBox both sound super fun!

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re looking for a practical, relaxing, faith-filled, or fun gift, this list has something for every homeschool mom. The best gifts show appreciation for her hard work and dedication, helping her feel supported and valued in her homeschooling journey. Whatever you choose, a heartfelt note expressing gratitude for all she does will make your gift even more meaningful!
